This video shows my back yard and features hostas in bloom, our pond, and my new stack of books garden sculpture. Across the lawn you will see geraniums, petunias,vinca, hydrangea, marigolds, salvia, ferns and more.

My Garden Video Part 1: Front Yard

In the summertime when I'm not working at the library, I'm working at home weeding my yard. If you've ever wondered why I haven't been online as much lately, this video will show you what's been keeping me busy.

This video shows my front yard and features our magnolia tree with vinca underneath, more vinca near the front entrance next to hibiscus which are not yet in bloom, yellow daylilies which have a starring role in our yard right now, and one of our deck boxes filled with geraniums and petunias.

Note: Background sounds on the videos include the steady hum of locusts, the crunching of my footsteps, occasional burst of birdsong, and a distant train whistle.

Each day of the year is marked on a brick along the circular
pathway. We enjoyed spotting our birthdays as we walked around.

Most sections of the calendar garden weren't in bloom.

Flowers for Friday: Hibiscus, Mushrooms, Mums & More

Tee hee. These drooping pink hibiscus remind
me of Sunday School where the children are told to
bow their heads and close their eyes for prayer.
There's always one who peeks!

I love the vibrant color of this
hibiscus bloom. Gorgeous!

This pale pink/white hibiscus is pretty too.

Lots of rain makes the pond water clear and reflective.
If you click to enlarge this photo, you can spy goldfish.

The wet weather also brought these three mushroom
visitors to the backyard. From a distance they
remind me of golf balls perched on driving range tees.

Summer is definitely waning. It's nearly fall
and soon these mums will be blooming.

Oh look! Here's a bloom that's already started.

I never noticed this until I posted these photos today...
but don't dahlias look a bit like mums?

planted along our back alley
to form a privacy hedge.

From here it looks likes a wall of flowers!

The other day I mentioned to my husband that
I'm unable to take photos of these morning glories
when I come home from work because they're closed up.
He gave me a look. When I asked, "What?" innocently,
he replied, "That's why they have that name."
Groan. I'd never put that together before.

Flowers for Friday

It's been a busy week and to be honest our garden is looking a bit neglected right now. So this Friday I only have two flower photos for you. The first one is a macro shot of a hosta bloom. The second one shows the single oriental lily that blossomed in the middle of a mass of daylilies. Both photos were taken with my cell phone camera. Have a great weekend, everyone. I hope to spend lots of time in my garden.
