After dinner at our hotel, we went for a ride on the London Eye. I had booked this for our first evening knowing that my fear of heights needed to be dealt with straightaway. When it was our turn to board, I was surprised to discover that the wheel doesn't actually stop for you to get on - you have to just jump on while it's in motion. I was very glad I didn't know that in advance.

Up, up we went. My stomach started quivering inside me. The capsule was closed and there was no escape possible. I turned my attention to taking photographs and that eased my fears. Then I let my son take a turn with the camera and I focused on giving him tips.

Eventually I worked my nerve up to take a look over the side. My stomach lurched but the amazing views distracted me. It was absolutely incredible to see London from this vantage point. I was actually enjoying myself. A bit later, my son casually mentioned that we were at the top of our revolution. Thanks alot, Charlie!
The sign in this photo amused me. Leaning on the door was the last thing I would do. Look how tiny the people in the park appear.

Despite my fear of heights, I am absolutely thrilled I took this ride with my son. It was an incredible once in a lifetime experience.

So glad you enjoyed your trip to London (and even the Eye!). It was really great to meet you.
OMG. Heights... eek! You were brave Sarah. Something I could not have done, and a work colleague of mine who went to London the weekend before, did not go on either even though it was paid for by her hubby.
I did not know the wheel carried on round either!
I'm thrilled that you were able to go onto the Eye despite of your fear of height. The views from the Eye are definitely stunning; it's great to be able to spot various tourist locations that you've visited during your visit in London.
With the rarely gorgeous weather that you had, were you able to see the greenbelt that contains the massive city of London?
Hi Jonathan,
No. I don't remember seeing a green belt surrounding London. It was a bit hazy which I attribute to the time of day (around 8 p.m.). I will be posting more photos of the views from the London Eye on my flickr site soon.
Sarah
